Our Story
Birds on a Wire began in the most ordinary place—Karen Stubbs’s basement—where a handful of moms gathered each week to talk, pray, and support one another. Karen was just a step ahead of these moms in parenting, but she sensed God nudging her to pour into the younger moms around her. What started as one small group soon grew into two as more moms showed up looking for encouragement, wisdom, and community.
After six years of leading those groups, Karen felt a persistent tug on her heart. In 2011, God began prompting her to leave her job in church ministry and create a nonprofit ministry for moms. Karen was honest with God—she felt unqualified, unsure, and more than a little intimidated by the idea of running a ministry and raising support. But the tug didn’t go away.
So in August 2011, with 65 moms on her roster and a God-sized dream to equip and encourage mothers, Karen stepped out in faith. She named the ministry Birds on a Wire after Matthew 6:26:

“Look at the birds of the air… your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
The verse captured the heart of every mom she’d ever talked to—the worry, the fear of messing things up, and the longing to trust God with their children. One of the moms from that original basement group, artist Jenifer Tanksley, painted an image of birds perched on a wire, inspired by the same passage. That simple picture became the symbol of the ministry: a reminder that moms can trust God to care for them and their families.
What began in a basement has now reached moms across the country and around the world. And through every podcast episode, study, and event, our message remains the same: You don’t have to mom alone—and you can trust the God who loves you and your children more than you know.

FOUNDER
KAREN
Karen Stubbs is the founder and heart behind Birds on a Wire. As a speaker, author, and creator of the Wire Talk podcast, she shares practical, biblical wisdom that feels more like coffee with a friend than a sermon.
Karen’s heart for moms began during her years as a Navy wife—raising four kids while Greg was off flying fighter jets. During that season, her faith in God deepened and her passion to support other moms grew. She learned that even though parenting is hard, God is faithful—and she could depend on Him every step of the way.
Karen and her husband, Greg, have been married 39 years and are proud parents to four grown kids—Kelsey, Emily, Taylor, and Abby—and grandparents to seven (with more on the way!). Karen loves her cockapoo Barkley, early lunches, and traveling just about anywhere with friends or family.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
At Birds on a Wire, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross to pay for the sins of all people. Three days later, He rose from the grave, defeating death and offering eternal life to everyone who believes in Him.
We believe in one God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—and that the Bible is the inspired, true Word of God from Genesis to Revelation.
